Exotic Birds at Second Chance

Several years ago, we began taking in unwanted exotic birds. It all started with a very sick parrot in the back room of a local pet store. As people brought the injured wild birds to us and saw the parrot, the word got out that we knew about birds and would take them in. It snowballed to the point where at one time, we had almost 200. We now have just under 100 full time residents, from tiny exotic finches to larger parrots. We have found homes for some of the exotic birds that come to us, but not all. Some have been so badly mistreated that we refuse to continue to pass them from home to home like the unwanted child in a foster home.

Think you would like to have a bird as a pet? They surely are magnificent creatures. Their beauty and intelligence is just unmatched by any other pet. Before you do buy or adopt one, check out this web site. (While this web site is talking about cockatoos, the problems and guidelines it discusses in our experience actually relates to all parrots.) Please, please don’t be part of the problem.
